Abstract

Solu Bolon merupakan perahu besar di kawasan Museum Huta Bolon Simanindo.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui fungsi, teknik penerapan dan warna ornamen pada Solu Bolon. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif yang terkumpul melalui survey, observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi yang dideskripsikan dalam bentuk karya tulis ilmiah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fungsi ornamen Solu Bolon zaman sekarang hanya sebagai penghias saja sedangkan zaman dahulu berfungsi sebagai penangkal setan dan kegembiraan. Sedangkan teknik aplikasi ornamen adalah dengan cara dilukis (Dais) dan diukir (Uhir/Lontik). Selanjutnya mengenai warna yang diterapkan pada ornamen yakni putih, merah, dan hitam. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini diharapkan nantinya mampu menjadi sumber informasi yang bermanfaat tentang sanggar lukis yang ada di Sumatera Utara khususnya daerah Tanjung Morawa. Kata Kunci : Ukir/lontik, Solu Bolon, gorga dais.
