ABSTRAKBerdasarkan pengalaman, siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 5 Kota Tebing Tinggi mengalami kesulitan belajar pada kompetensi dasar operasi bentuk aljabar. Pada kompetensi ini, guru lebih cenderung menggunakan pendekatan pengajaran langsung (direct instruction) yang berpusat ke guru. Masalah tersebut dapat dipecahkan dengan membangun pemahaman konsep operasi bentuk aljabar dengan memanfaatkan lingkungan sekolah. Subjek penelitian adalah kelas VII-7. Penelitian ini terdiri atas dua siklus. Tiap siklus mencakup perencanaan, tindakan, observasi dan refleksi. Observasi dan pengumpulan data dapat dilakukan oleh guru sekaligus peneliti dengan dibantu oleh dua orang kolaborator. Instrumen pengumpulan data berupa pedoman observasi dan lembar kerja.Kata Kunci : Konsep Operasi Bentuk Aljabar
