Tari Menguyak Pucuk diciptakan oleh Bapak Fauzi seorang seniman Melayu yang dimiliki masyarakat kota Tanjung Balai. Tari ini bersumber dari aktifitas para buruh dalam mengolah daun nipah yang dijadikan rokok daun, yang kebanyakan dilakukan oleh buruh wanita Ada 6 gerak pekerjaan yang dimulai dari mengimas, menebang, menotak, menguyak, menjemur, dan menggundal, yang kemudian dijadikan motif dasar tari yang dikembangkan menjadi karya Tari Menguyak Pucuk.
