Selaginella merupakan marga tunggal dari suku Selaginellaceae yang terdiri dari kurang lebih 750 jenis di seluruh dunia. Informasi taksonomi mengenai keberadaan Selaginella di Sumatera Utara masih belum lengkap, sehingga diperlukan penelitian yang lebih mendalam mengenai jenis tersebut di daerah ini. Penelitian menggunakan metode taksonomi dengan 87 koleksi spesimen dari Herbarium Bogoriense. Salah satu karakter yang digunakan untuk mengidentifikasi Selaginella adalah daun lateral. Dari karakter daun lateral diperoleh beberapa variasi bentuk yang dapat digunakan untuk proses identifikasi Selaginella lebih lanjut.References
